Donation Gives Young People’s Job Prospects A Boost

On Tuesday 13th March, managed IT Services specialist, ITZone247 visited the headquarters of Youth Action, Lancashire’s leading youth support organisation, to complete the handover of new software that should help local people to improve their IT skills and enhance their prospects for employment.

Youth Action is an independent community organisation that works with young people aged between 8 and 24. It now supports well over 5,000 members and much of its work involves helping them to develop new skills, to secure valuable training and to find their way into paid employment.

In an effort to do this, Youth Action encourages young people to develop experience and skills that have real value to employers. An important example of this is familiarity with the kind of computer software that is commonly used in business – packages that deal with vital tasks such as email, word processing and information management.

As a long-standing supporter of Youth Action, ITZone247 recently volunteered to provide and install Microsoft software at the organisation’s headquarters. The system was installed at the beginning of March and pronounced ready for use at the handover on Tuesday the 13th. Ready to test the new IT infrastructure were Michael and Eloise, two young East Lancashire-based members who were keen to add further computer skills to their CVs.

With them were ITZone247 Managing Director Mustak Patel, and Youth Action’s Development Manager Philip Austin.

“Youth Action does a truly fantastic job of helping to equip young people with the skills that will really serve them well in life,” said Mustak. “We’ve always been impressed by their practical, positive and realistic approach and by the lengths that they go to in order to help their members make a better future for themselves. We therefore had absolutely no reservations about donating this software because we were one hundred percent certain that they’ll make very good use it.”

Speaking on behalf of Youth Action, Philip Austin said: “Ties with the regional business community are extremely important to us. Not only do we benefit from the generous support of companies like ITZone247, but our continuing relationships with employers also help us to ensure that we’re encouraging our members to take meaningful action that will genuinely improve their chances of employment and enable them to take control of their own futures.

“We are very grateful to ITZone247 and, rest assured, we will put the new computer systems to excellent use. Anyone interested can visit our new website – www.youthaction.org.uk – for more info about our events and opportunities.”

Originally launched in London, ITZone247 moved its head office to Blackburn in 2005 but it also operates satellite offices in Manchester, Birmingham and London. It serves clients throughout the UK, providing IT support, consultancy and network design and installation services. More information can be found on its website – www.itzone247.com – or by calling its head office on 0845 370 7786.

Lancashire Businessman sees the Light with new Venture

22 March 2012

Twelve months ago, 40 year old Andy Cornwall from Mellor gave up his job in the wine trade to start selling light bulbs and hasn’t looked back.

After 13 years as a wine rep and owning his own wine shop, Andy felt he needed a new challenge and despite the current economic climate, took the plunge and set up his own internet business, www.lovelightbulbs.com

After researching many products and with green energy high on the agenda, Andy saw an opportunity to sell quality LEDs. Within months sales jumped from 1-2 orders a week to well over 100. The company now sells across Europe and Australia.

Andy says: “For a few months I was still selling wine and running the light bulb business, but it just proved so successful that one job had to go. I’ve always been my own boss, but working in a different industry is a real challenge, there’s always something new to learn and the feedback from customers has been amazing. Plus I get to save them money on their bills, which is a bonus. I’d definitely encourage anyone thinking of setting up an internet business to give it a go.”

www.lovelightbulbs.com puts its success down to providing the best quality products and excellent customer service. “We live in a society with appalling customer service, therefore to stand out from the rest you need to be the best at what you do,” adds Andy.

Andy is already expanding the business into new areas and has lots of plans for the future.

Compelling Reasons to engage in ISO 9001

When we advertise ISO 9001 Consultancy services, businesses often enquire, “Tell us exactly how we can gain from engaging your services?” Good question. The ISO 9001 quality management system (QMS) can be very useful in improving your organisation. To achieve these benefits, an organisation must have the knowledge to implement ISO 9001 in the right manner. An experienced ISO 9001 consultant can save you significant time and money by helping your organisation achieve the following benefits:

1. Attain ISO 9001 Certification The Right Way

A large number of companies get ISO 9001 certification for the wrong reasons, usually because it is statedas a requirement for doing business with an existing or potential customer. This leads to sloppy implementation with no sustainable long-term benefits. An ISO consultant can help you implement the system the right way with the key focus on continual improvement and enhancing customer satisfaction.

2. Improve Company and Product Quality

ISO 9001 requires an organisation to assess and control risks governing its operational processes to assure consistent product or service quality. An experienced ISO 9001 consultant can help you identify and analyse these process risks and find effective ways to control and manage your business activities. Many good consultants have done dozens, if not hundreds of systems audits and they can share best practices gained from that experience.

3. Increase Customer Satisfaction Through Customer-focused Continual Improvement.

Studying your customers needs, both stated and implied leads to not just providing product that meets their specifications, but also fits their actual application or use. This leads to significantly reduced product issues and customer complaints. Partnering with your customers to understand their specific applications and product concerns will help develop long-term relationships with customers. An ISO 9001 consultant can help you set up such continual improvement processes focused on your customers.

4. Establish Metrics For Business Management

You cannot manage and improve an organisation without information on business performance. Many organisations don’t devote enough resources to set up systems to track operational performance. an ISO Consultant can help you determine what business performance metrics to use, how to collect and analyse it and how to use it for timely and effective decision-making to manage and improve your organisation.

5. Empowering Employee Motivation to Develop a Professional Culture

Implementing ISO 9001 can require significant change within an organization. It is human nature for personnel to resist change if they feel it is being forced upon them. Facilitating their participation and empowering employees at all levels from the very outset, to undertake required change of the ISO 9001 implementation project, will help tremendously toimprove their morale, motivation and buy-in to systemic changes. ISO 9001 Consultants have a lot of experience in facilitating such projects.

6. Maintain or Recharge Your ISO 9001 Quality Management System

ISO 9001 provides many tools to ensure it stays dynamic and robust as a business tool. After certification, many organizations let their quality systems slidedue to various reasons such as employee turnover, transfers, added responsibilities, economic downturn, etc. Using ISO 9001 Consulting services to refresh, recharge and retrain employees can provide much needed re-focus and motivation in performing required internal audits, root cause analysis and corrective actions, revisiting controls due to process changes, continual improvements initiatives, etc.

7. Improve Business Efficiency, Reduce Waste, and Save Money

Most businesses have operational problems that they must deal with. Various studies over the decades have indicated that these problems can cause a comapny to lose as much as 35% of its profits Factors such as waste, inefficiency, ineffective use of resources, controls and processes are the major causes of such problems. Many ISO 9001 consultancy services provide a wide range of services beyond ISO. These may include lean manufacturing, six sigma, use of specialised business tools and software and related problem solving skills. The return on investment of such consulting services can be significant.

Social CRM – not to be ignored

The World is changing to Web 3.0, but why should you bother?

The world is becoming more and more social as the number of social networking sites and other online platforms increase. From the concept of Web 2.0, we are moving to the concept of Web 3.0. A very high number of customers prefer using a product based on word – of – mouth rather than just watching an advertisement. This has made organisations work rigorously to change their strategies towards retaining their present customers as well as acquiring new customers.

CUSTOMER is the KEY

In Social CRM, the key is the CUSTOMER. It is very important to look at the points and places of discussion for the customer. Most importantly, organisations should concentrate and work towards improving the experience for a customer who they think has the highest potential and value for improving their productivity. This way the organisation can avoid wastage of time and resources on the other unwanted customers as well as target the right customers.

Where is Social CRM leading to for the IT and BPO sectors? Social CRM is leading to a sort of revolution in the world of IT and BPO service providers as well. They are looking at this as an opportunity to extend and improve their CRM and BPO services to include the social networks and platforms.

More and more organisations are realising that the rules to engage with the customers and with their communities are changing. The faster they innovate, the more competitive and productive they would get. This is turning out to be the CRM 2.0 or the social network CRM.

But why should you bother at all?

Customer acquisition is the key to the success of any business. With the world going flat, and customers interacting with each other in real-time on various social networks and other channels, engaging a customer is the first step towards a successful customer acquisition strategy.

Your customers are talking about what they need, what they like and also about you! The key to effective lead generation and also solid customer service, while reducing the operational cost of the delivery, is to be where your customers are. And Social CRM empowers your business to do just that!

Debt advice for anyone concerned about unemployment

The Debt Advisory Centre is reminding everyone to do what they can to protect themselves against financial hardship in the event that they’re made redundant, after it was revealed by the Office for National Statistics that unemployment has hit a 20-year high and that there are currently over 1 million young people unemployed.

Some of those people may be able to rely on savings, but some may find they need to borrow money to get by. If you’re in work at the moment – are you prepared for what might happen if you lost your job?

Growth forecasts predict that the economy will only grow by about 1% over 2012. Also, it’s predicted by some experts that unemployment will rise further this year and the next. Sir Mervyn King, Governor of the Bank of England, has said that growth over the next few quarters would be “markedly weaker” than previously thought.

Unemployment can easily lead to debt. The debt charity the Money Advice Service has said that one in eight of the people who became unemployed in the third quarter of this year will have severe debt problems as a result.

A spokesperson for http://www.debtadvisorycentre.co.uk/ commented: “If you are employed at the moment, consider whether you are doing enough to protect yourself financially if you lost your job. It is certainly worth putting whatever you can afford into savings every month. Even £50 a month (just £12.50 per week) would grow into a substantial pot of £600 after only 12 months.

“If you’re worried about your job security but can’t afford to save at the moment because of debt payments, it’s particularly important to get those debts paid off. If you can’t even afford those debt payments, you may be able to lower your monthly payments with one of the many debt solutions that are available to people in debt. A professional debt advisor will be able to tell you about the various ways out of debt.

“If you are unemployed, do what you can to avoid borrowing. If you have savings to fall back on, so much the better; even so, you may find it impossible to maintain the same standard of living as when you were working. Addressing your spending and living within your means will help you to cope with unemployment and avoid unnecessary borrowing while you’re out of work.

“Finally, make sure you are receiving all the benefits and tax credits you are entitled to while you’re not working, although this isn’t likely to be a great amount. While you’re out of work, draw up a new budget taking account of your present income and try to make sure your expenses remain less than your income. Things may be difficult for a while, but unemployment is usually temporary, so focus on your goal of finding a new job, or retraining.”

Crown Oil Alliance with Q8Oils Delivers Advanced Lubricants for Transport and Industry

By Crown Oil UK

Crown Oil, suppliers of road fuel and lubricants to transport, engineering, manufacturing, food and specialist industries, has become an authorised distributor of high quality lubricants from Q8Oils.

Crown Oil, suppliers of road fuel and lubricants to transport, engineering, manufacturing, food and specialist industries, has become an authorised distributor of high quality lubricants from Q8Oils. The company will supply and provide technical service for a complete range of the Q8Oils premium quality branded lubricants complimenting the Crown Oil range of lubricants manufactured at their blending plant in Bury Lancashire.

Mark Andrews, Crown Oil group general manager explained, “Q8Oils produce specially formulated lubricants for transport, manufacturing, food production and other industries. These advanced lubricants promote efficiency, extend plant life, safeguard the health of users and protect the environment. All the products carry extensive technical approvals and official endorsement. This is a new premium market segment for Crown Oil and one that fits comfortably within our existing business.”

The advanced Q8Oils formulations safeguard the health of users in several ways. Cooling/cutting oils used in engineering are emulsion that in the past could become a potential bio-hazard. Q8Oils incorporate additives to overcome this potential problem safeguarding operators. Likewise food-safe lubricants and greases for use in food, dairy, beverage and brewing industries are free of anything that could introduce chemical taint or potentially harbour bacteria.

Crown Oil have a technical help desk, manned by experienced chemists and technicians, who are able to advise on the more unusual and challenging lubrication questions. A sales force of forty staff are undertaking a comprehensive training programme on the Q8Oils range, to ensure users are advised on the best lubricant for every situation.

Company chemist Riaz Amanjy explained, “Many companies are very traditional in selecting lubrication products. To take vehicle lubricants as an example, these can be degraded by temperature, fuel contamination, metal erosion in the engine or even the type journey that the vehicle does. Selecting the right lubricant can improve performance, permit extended service intervals and so contribute significantly to overall fleet efficiency.”

Crown Oil will offer delivery in parallel to its national fuel distribution service. Normal order turnaround will be five days. Provision can be for made for express delivery in an emergency. Details of lubricants can be found at http://www.crownoil.co.uk/lubricants.php.

Red Rose Awards 2012 – Final Call for Entries!

DEADLINE: Thursday January 26, 5pm
ENTER AT: WWW.REDROSEAWARDS.CO.UK
AWARDS EVENT: Thursday March 15
AWARDS VENUE: Blackpool Winter Gardens

The deadline for the second Red Rose Awards, which celebrate business excellence in Lancashire, is coming up fast!

The Awards, which are organised by East Lancashire Chamber member Lancashire Business View magazine, will celebrate the outstanding achievements of real businesses in our county.

Richard Slater, publisher of Lancashire Business View, said: “We will be rewarding and recognising businesses which have not only survived but thrived in incredibly challenging times. As a county we should be celebrating and congratulating hard-working, industrious businesses and acknowledging our diverse and vibrant business community.”

Entries need to be received by January 26 and can be made at www.redroseawards.co.uk

Richard added: “Last year’s inaugural Red Rose Awards gave a beleaguered business community the opportunity to showcase their work, forge new relationships and celebrate the great things that Lancashire businesses do every day.

“What we aim for with the awards and with our magazine is to remind businesses in Lancashire just how good they are and promote trade within the county – if it can be bought in Lancashire, then don’t buy it in London. That’s one way to help drive business and jobs into the county.”

Forbes Solicitors, which has offices across the county, is once again the headline sponsor of the awards.

John Barker, managing partner of Forbes, and a director of the Chamber, said: “We are delighted and very proud to be headline sponsors of the Red Rose Awards.  We see the awards as a true pan-Lancashire celebration that recognises the achievements of businesses throughout the county.”
