About Colne, Lancashire

Colne – Lancashire is a small town in the borough of Pendle with a very rich history that dates all the way back to the Stone Age. Tools and artifacts from that era have been found in the vicinity, corroborating this. There is even evidence to suggest that the Romans were involved in the area. Located very close to Burnley, this little town built itself up on cotton. Today most of the cotton mills have been converted to other uses, manufacturing a whole array of products.

This quaint town definitely makes for an interesting place to visit with is cobblestone streets and old houses. It is a great place to walk about, enjoying the day and taking in the views of the surroundings. In fact it is known for its great picturesque views of the rolling hills of England. There is Bulsworth Hill to the South and Nonya Hill north east of the town. The village of Blacko, arguably England’s last authentic village is just a little out of Colne and is worth a day trip.

The most iconic peak is Pendle Hill, notoriously associated with the Pendle Witches who lived on the hill and were subject to one of the the country’s most famous witchcraft trials. The lore of the area lives on as locals and visitors alike climb the hill every Halloween. It is said to be one of the most haunted spots in all the land. Pendle Hill is also connected to the breathtaking Forest of Bowland. With plunging valleys and spectacular rock formations, the forest is a protected area and is officially recognized as an area of outstanding natural beauty.

Colne – Lancashire is easily accessible by bus, rail or car. One of the best times to visit this enclave would be during the annual Rhythm and Blues Festival which draws spectators from all over the world. This three day festival has a main event which international performers and world renowned artistes. The local cafes and pubs usually get in on the party and hold fringe events featuring local acts.

With its rich history and beckoning views, Colne – Lancashire is an interesting little town with a lot to offer.
